In January 2010, the energy regulator Ofgem introduced new rules covering micro business customers entering into electricity contracts.

What is a micro business?

With effect from the 1st April 2014 a customer is classified as a micro business if it meets one of the following criteria:

- an annual consumption of electricity of not more than 100,000 kWh; or

- fewer than 10 employees (or their full time equivalent); AND an annual turnover or annual balance sheet total not exceeding €2 million.

A business only has to meet one of these three criteria to qualify as a micro business customer, although the consumption threshold applies to the fuel being supplied. The definition applies to customers, not sites, and focuses on the total value of a customers contract, rather than an individual site's characteristics.

Renewing as a micro business

Your Contract End Date is displayed on your monthly Dual Energy invoice. You may terminate the contract at any time provided you give us a minimum 30 days written notice before the Contract End Date.

As you approach the end of the contract, Dual Energy will notify you of future pricing and contract term options. If you do not renew with Dual Energy or serve termination notice and do not move to another supplier, you will roll onto the SmartFlex variable tariff. With the SmartFlex tariff you can terminate at any time by giving 30-day’s notice and there are no termination fees. Rates are variable and can go up as well as down in line with market conditions.

Information regarding the contract end date and termination notice is available on your monthly Dual Energy bill. Please also refer to the terms and conditions provided in your renewal welcome letter and website www.dual-energy.co.uk.
